📖 What Is Manga?
Manga (mahn-guh) is Japan's version of comic books and graphic novels. Many are adapted into anime (a-nuh-may) — animated TV shows and movies.
South Korea has a similar format called manhwa (mahn-wa). Like American cartoons, manga and anime are not all for kids — they span every age group and genre imaginable.

What to Know as a Parent
Manga spans action, romance, fantasy, sci-fi and more.
Reading manga together opens great conversations.
⚠️ What to Watch Out For
Graphic violence: Action manga ranges from stylized fights to very gory visuals. Always check the rating before your child reads.
"Cute" doesn't mean safe: Some innocent-looking titles (The Promised Neverland, Made in Abyss) contain disturbing adult themes. Always verify the rating.
Unrealistic standards & tropes: Exaggerated body types, toxic relationship dynamics, and mature humor appear even in teen-rated titles. Use these as talking points with your child.
